Barrel-aging spirits are certainly nothing new. And this also applies to gin. In 2008, Alexandre Gabriel caused a stir by doing just that – producing wood-aged Citadelle Réserve. No one had seen an aged gin for almost a century. In those days, when glass was too fragile and expensive and plastic and stainless steel were not options, gin was transported in wooden barrels. Hernö Navy Strength Gin, a bold flagship rich in flavour, is made from the same distilled gin as Hernö Gin, but diluted to 57% instead of 40,5%. The difference in aroma and taste is very clear and Hernö Navy Strength has an overall richer flavour with bolder juniper, coriander and citrus.

The British royal navy demanded stronger gin when traditional gin strength ruined the gunpowder, which wouldn’t ignite after being soaked by spilled gin.

Hernö Navy Strength Gin was released on the 1st of April 2013.

Later the same year it was awarded with double Master medals at the Global Gin Masters and another Master 2014.

HERNÖ ORGANIC OLD TOM GIN

Hernö Old Tom Gin is made from the same distilled gin as Hernö Gin, but with an extra amount of Meadowsweet added in the distillation and after diluting it down to 43% we add a touch of sugar. The sweetening lifts the floral notes, releases an array of juniper and makes the gin even smoother.

Hernö Old Tom Gin is made from the same distilled gin as Hernö Gin, but tweaked the recipe and upped the dose of meadowsweet while also adding honey after distillation. The sweetness is apparent on the nose but comes to the fore when tasted. The soft mouthfeel and added honey is evident but also accentuates some of the distillery’s core floral characteristics. Meadowsweet and the lingon berries come though a little stronger than in the usual London Dry (to be expected, as one is increased in the recipe and the other responds well to sweetness) and the overall effect is a complex and intriguing Old Tom Gin.

Hernö Old Tom Gin is awarded as best world gin of 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and is the most awarded gin of Hernö distillery.

This craft Italian gin is made using 10 botanicals where 5 have greater intensity including sage, bergamot and juniper, hence the name “Piu’ Cinque” , plus five in Italian. Characterized by a more tropical and indigenous nuanced profile, it is a gin that stands out for its authenticity and incorporates Argentine botanicals such as yerba mate, pink grapefruit, peppermint and eucalyptus. Distilled in 200 liter batches in a German copper still, Apostoles is produced in a totally artisanal manner. The botanicals are macerated separately in a grain alcohol solution. Fresh yerba mate leaves, eucalyptus and pink grapefruit are macerated for 24 hours. The same goes for juniper and coriander. Peppermint, on the other hand, is macerated for 2 hours. Only at this point are all the infusions combined to proceed with the distillation. The result is then bottled and numbered according to the distillation batch.
